Training this week covered COVID-19 and how we respond to a patient suspected of having this virus. Our utmost priority is the health and safety of our citizens and our first responders.

“Vehicle extrication is the process of removing a vehicle from around a person who has been involved in a motor vehicle collision, when conventional means of exit are impossible or inadvisable. A delicate approach is needed to minimize injury to the victim during the extrication” Source: Wikipedia.
This training focused on different methods of removing a trapped victim efficiently and safely.
Training
Machinery Rescue training was held at McCutchanville Station 5 with firefighters from McCutchanville Fire Department, German Township Fire Department, and Evansville Fire Department. During this course, rescuers learned how to use different tools and techniques for removing limbs from objects and machinery.
Training
Members enrolled in the Module B class traveled to Ohio Township Fire Department and learned how to respond to a Hazardous Material spill.

Training began with two phases. Phase 1 included gear drills. Phase 2 contained proper response and patient care during a large incident.
Gear drills are timed drills firefighters go through to practice putting on all firefighter gear quickly. This includes Gloves, Bunker Pants, Boots, Helmet, Coat, Nomex Hood, Self Contained Breath Apparatus and SCBA Mask. Firefighters must be well trained in putting on their turnout gear quickly in order to provide a quick response to the community. Seconds matter in firefighting. Having the ability to be efficient saves time and lives.
The second phase was reviewing how to properly respond to large medical incidents. When there are many injuries on a scene, being able to work efficiently and effectively is important. German Township Firefighters always train and prepare for many different types of responses. Always to provide the best possible response that the community deserves.
Training
Training started out with a bang. Training for Monday night consisted of truck familiarization. German Township Firefighters checked over the trucks for the first half of the training. Making sure all equipment was in working order and also becoming more familiar with the location of items on the Engines. For the second half of training, firefighters practiced the operations of R.I.T. R.I.T stands for Rapid Intervention Team. These teams are dedicated to the rescue of other firefighters. This team is assembled during an incident that a firefighter becomes lost, trapped or disoriented while fighting a structure fire. In the scenario provided to our firefighters, there was a firefighter lost inside of a structure. Three firefighters were sent in on a left hand search to recover the lost firefighter. Inbetween R.I.T operations firefighters did physical activity in their gear to simulate working conditions at any fire or response. Full gear on a firefighter adds an extra 60lbs. German Township Firefighters train to continue serving their community with the best possible protection of life and property.
Residential Structure Fire Mill RD 12-30-2016
German Twp FD responded just after 8am to a residential structure fire in the 7000 blk of Mill Rd. Upon arrival, firefighters found a heavily involved home and the resident outside. The first arriving engine quickly requested a second alarm to assure proper staffing. The damage to the structure made complete extinguishment difficult while keeping firefighters safe. Thank you to the neighboring departments who assisted.
Residential Structure Fire Viehe Drive 12-29-2016
Mutual Aid with Mccutchanville Fire Department
On December 29, 2016, German Township Fire Department was called to assist with a residential structure fire in the 2200 block of Viehe Drive. German Township Fire Department sent an engine and a rescue for man-power to assist Mccutchanville Fire Department. Six Volunteers and Two Daytime Staff Members assisted in the extinguishment of the Third Alarm Fire. Other Fire Departments that assisted in the effort are: Scott Township Fire Department, Ohio Township Fire Department, Perry Township Fire Department along with other departments that assisted with coverage.
